AFWERX has awarded Research in Flight with a new Phase I contract. The contract proposal titled, “Comprehensive Acoustics Characterization Framework for eVTOL/HSVTOL Aircraft” will look to extend existing FlightStream® aeroacoustics capabilities for eVTOL aircraft to HSVTOL arcraft applications.

Research in Flight is partnered with Auburn University on developing this new aeroacoustic enhancement for its FlightStream® flow solver. The new aeroacoustic characertization is expected to be used by USAF and DoD customers, in the evaluation of emerging eVTOL and HSVTOL class of aircraft.

The Auburn University partners are being led by Dr. Joseph Majdalani and his graduate students. The Research in Flight principal investigator is Dr. Vivek Ahuja. The Phase I activity is expected to finish in February 2023 which will result in the initial characterization being formulated based on USAF and DoD feedback. In the follow-on Phase II, this capability will be commercialized by Research in Flight for industry and academic customers.
